Adrian Reed | Marketing Director
One of the biggest challenges we face as an organisation is how we can effectively and efficiently market ourselves. As it stands, we simply don't have the level of brand awareness that we deserve. Put simply, we're one of the BA communities best kept secrets!
A key weapon in our armoury is e-mail marketing. It's an important communication method and is the primary way our members hear about events. The IIBA UK branch network has expanded vastly, and the e-mail tools available to us were no longer fit for purpose. We could not segment our campaigns, the tools produced e-mails that were not readable in certain versions of Outlook, and we had no reliable way of tracking campaign effectiveness. In short, the ineffectiveness was hurting… it meant that we weren’t able to connect to our members and prospects effectively.
My primary focus since I was elected in mid-2012 has been to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of our e-mail marketing. In response to this I have migrated our mailing list to a new provider, giving us more flexibility. We are now able to proactively promote events, and can send follow up e-mails with more efficiency and ease. Going forward, we will be able to segment and target our e-mails. So far, this has proved extremely successful.
I have continued to grow our presence on Twitter. This is a 'slow burn' activity, focussed mainly at building brand awareness. Critically, this channel provides a medium for people to hear about and engage with the IIBA before they are ready to commit to membership. We aim to tweet 3 times a week. We have over 480 followers, if you are on Twitter you can follow us too (@UKIIBA).
The website has proved a continual challenge. We are provided with a central content-management system from IIBA central and Joe da Silva has spent months working with Central to agree a better solution. The entire board are aware that the website currently just isn't good enough, and we hope to address this in the coming months. In the meantime we will take practical tactical measures to improve it by ensuring the content is up to date and also by offering 'landing pages' to each branch.
My priorities in the forthcoming 6 months include:
- Continuing to support events by providing & improving our e-mail marketing capabilities and ensuring that we get “people through the door”
- Creating landing pages on our website to support the growth of our branch network
- Growing our mailing list and Twitter followership so we reach more BAs
- Ensuring we take the opportunity to 'ask for the sale' and encourage people to become members
- Develop a flexible sponsorship model
- Contribute towards the expansion/selection/configuration of a new web content management system (this will be led by our Operations Director).
Finally, I’d like to take this opportunity to extend my thanks to Leena Shah (Our Events Publicity Co-ordinator) for all the hard work she has done to help promote our events.
Marlene Leggott | Business Development Director
- Facilitated 2011 Board Elections
- Scoped, advertised and interviewed for Administrator vacancy
- Attended the 2011 conference and 1 London and 2 regional events
- Advertised and allocated volunteers for Board sponsored volunteering roles
My focus for the next 6 months will be defining the UK BA conference strategy, including Identifying opportunities for IIBA participation at other conferences, corporate sponsorship and forming partnerships with complementary organisations e.g. PMI, APM, BCS
Davis Avis | Operations Director
- Took North West and North East Branch to a successful first event in September.
- Formation of Scotland volunteer community to take us to our first event (16th Feb)
- Worked with Adrian to put in place post event feedback process which has really helped us in identifying what we do well (and not so well).
- Organised the Barclays Event in October – great feedback and a very popular event.
- Supported Conference 2011 activity (as we all did)
- Supported activity around a number of other events over the past 6 months.
- Worked with Joe to complete the Annual BA Survey.
- As a general note, although not a specific deliverable, I think we’ve provided quite a few successful sponsorship agreements (BSG UK, Certeco, etc)
Greg Cipollone | Member Experience Director
- Consolidation & Review and consolidation of UK Chapter membership status
- Liaison with main IIBA body on membership issues
- Participation in feasibility study for new consolidated (IIBA & local chapter) membership model
- Currently supporting the development of the new IIBA integrated membership system (IICM)
- Attendance of Monthly IIBA European and Africa (EA) Region Chapters meetings
- Organisation and hosting of EA region chapter network breakfast event at 2011 BA conference
- Supported the preparation of the UK chapter stand at 2011 BA conference
- Attended the 2011 BA conference and handled enquiries at the IIBA stand
Over the coming 6 months, my main priority will be to improve the UK chapter membership experience. This includes improvement in the administration of member enrolment and renewal process. An active project in this area is the development of the new integrated IIBA membership management system (IICM) that I am supporting. Another area of development is the corporate membership for the UK chapter, building on some of the initial success from 2011.
